About the project: "The Mountaintop": "It's April 3, 1968 and Martin Luther King, Jr. returns to the Lorraine Motel after delivering his history-altering "I've Been to the Mountaintop" speech. When he orders room service, a young maid arrives with a revelation that calls Dr. King to confront unwelcome truths. As a lightning storm rages outside, the legacy of America's most revered civil rights leader is laid bare to reveal his profound humanity. A single night's reckoning with racism, righteousness, and the rocky path toward justice, The Mountaintop imagines what Dr. King's last night on Earth could have been.* Rate: All roles are paid. Additional info: Callbacks, if necessary, will be held Monday, December 11th. You will be notified by email if you are needed for callbacks. "The Mountaintop": Performance dates are February 7-17th, 2024. Rehearsals will begin on December 18th. Rehearsals will start out three days a week until January. Those auditioning must be 18 years of age or older by December 17th, 2023. "Spring Awakening": Performance dates are March 6-23rd, 2024. Rehearsals will begin on January 27th. Rehearsals will start out four days a week (Monday-Wednesday evenings, & Saturdays from 10-5pm) until late February. Those auditioning are asked to prepare a 32-bar pop/rock song that shows your vocal range or one of the four provided cuts from the show. An accompanist will be provided. While it is preferable that you utilize accompaniment, instrumental tracks are acceptable if you don’t have sheet music. Actors may also feature their skills with piano, guitar, percussion, or other instruments if they would like to accompany themselves. Auditionees may be asked to read and/or sing from the script following their audition. If you sing a capella, you will be asked to sing with the piano. Video submissions available. He can sometimes present as older than his true age. While being a brilliant orator, impassioned preacher, and a fearless leader, he is more than the hero in our history books. (Female identifying) A beautiful, young maid at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee. Direct, unfussy, and incredibly insightful, she’s unafraid of her sexuality as a tool but has many tricks up her sleeve. MLK’s equal. And although deeply human and vulnerable, there is much more to her than is first revealed. She owns the power of her convictions. She speaks with a Black Southern accent. His academic failures, overwhelming confusion relating to sexual feelings, and trying to live up to high expectations from his parents seem comedic at first. It ends up being too much for him. Role requires physical intimacy, physical abuse trigger warning, and suicide trigger warning. "Spring Awakening"
(Female identifying, Mezzo-Soprano/Strong Belt, Vocal Range: G3 - E5) Spiritual, bold, and upbeat despite her circumstances. Sixteen years old. A young girl who runs away from an abusive home to live in an artists’ colony. Most liberated of the children. However, when examined further, it is clear she is mentally unstable and being controlled by men in the artist's colony. Role requires profanity, physical intimacy and domestic sexual abuse trigger warning. "Spring Awakening"
(Female identifying, Alto/Strong belt, Vocal Range: E3-E5) A mature, aloof, and guarded school girl that is made fun of for liking the less popular boys. Fourteen years old. One of Wendla’s friends who is beaten and sexually abused by her father while her mother watches it unfold. Best friend of Anna. Role requires profanity, physical intimacy and sexual assault trigger warning. "Spring Awakening"
