About the project: Synopsis: James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim take everyone's favorite storybook characters and bring them together for a timeless, yet relevant, piece... and a rare modern classic. The Tony Award-winning book and score are both enchanting and touching. The story follows a Baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King's Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch's curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone's wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results. One of Sondheim's most popular works, Into the Woods is a musically sophisticated show with the opportunity to feature actors adept at dark comedy. Designers will especially enjoy highlighting the fantastical elements of this magical word. Rate: Stipends: The Theatre Company values compensating artists for their work. Theatre's ultimate goal is to provide a stipend to every actor in every show, however at this time they are only able to compensate principle actors in productions. The actors cast in the following roles will be provided a stipend for Into the Woods: The Baker The Baker's Wife Cinderella Jack Little Red Riding Hood The Witch Additional info: Audition Preparation: Auditionees will be seen on a first-come, first-served basis. Please arrive no later than 8:30pm on Friday evening and 4:30pm on Saturday to ensure that everyone can be seen before auditions end. Prepare a 1 minute to 1.5 minute cut of a musical theatre piece NOT from Into the Woods. Please bring your own track or have a YouTube link with start/stop times on a device ready to plug into a speaker or connect to Bluetooth. No monologues are required, however you will be asked to do a cold reading from the show. Callbacks: Callbacks will be held on Sunday, February 4 at 7:00pm until everyone has been seen. You will be called in to sing for a specific role and read with others. You will be notified the evening of Saturday, February 3 if you are needed at callbacks. Rehearsal and Production Dates & Location: Rehearsals begin with a read thru on Wednesday, February 28 and in earnest during the first full week of March. Rehearsals will be held on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from 6:30-8:30pm. They may go until 9:00pm as they get further into the rehearsal process. Not all actors will be called for every rehearsal. Directors will make a detailed rehearsal schedule to accommodate as many conflicts as possible, however they request that you make this show a priority. Into the Woods has a vast amount of difficult music. They will move at a fast clip and need all cast members present and ready to work as much as possible. Performances: June 20-22 at 7:30pm, June 23 at 2:00pm; June 27-29 at 7:30pm, June 30 at 2:00pm. If you are interested, please apply.
