Actors Audition For Musical "Ragtime"
Looking for performers of a variety of ages for March 2024 production of "Ragtime". ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE CONSIDERED. Please see the breakdown below. About the project: With a score by Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens and book by Terrance McNally, RAGTIME is set in the volatile melting pot of turn-of-the-last-century New York. Three distinctly American tales are woven together – that of a stifled upper-class wife, a determined Jewish immigrant, and a daring young Harlem musician – united by their courage, compassion, and belief in the promise of the future. Together, they confront history's timeless contradictions of wealth and poverty, freedom and prejudice, hope and despair... and what it means to live in America. RAGTIME celebrates uniquely American music styles, from the ragtime styles of Harlem and Tin Pan Alley and the klezmer music of the Lower East Side, to bold brass band marches and delicate waltzes, up-tempo banjo tunes, period parlor songs, and expansive anthems. Additional info: People of all ethnicities, gender expressions, cultural heritage / background, and body types are encouraged to audition. All auditionees are asked to prepare 32 bars of their best traditional musical theatre or classical music selection. Please bring your sheet music in the correct key for the accompanist.
