“The Mountaintop” Stage Play Seeking Cast
The Company is looking for non-equity actors for its upcoming production of “The Mountaintop”. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE CONSIDERED. See the details below. About the project: Synopsis: The Mountaintop is a fictional retelling of how Martin Luther King Jr. spent his last night on earth, before his tragic assassination. After delivering his famous “I’ve been to the mountaintop speech” on behalf of the sanitation workers in Memphis, Martin goes to the Lorraine Motel to rest before another long day of campaigning. His world is spun on his axis when he meets Camae, a beautiful maid, who delivers his room service. At first, they only exchange flirtatious remarks, but soon they start a deep dialogue about Martin’s hopes and fears, and the two develop a true understanding. When Camae reveals that she is an angel that has come to prepare him for the soon-to-be-coming afterlife, Martin must confront his fears and face his own mortality. The Mountaintop shows the audience a different side of Martin Luther King: a man who is tired, flawed, yet -- despite everything -- is an inspiration. Rate: A small stipend will be paid based on opening night sales. Additional info: What to prepare: Please prepare 1-2 minute Monologue in the style of the show. Callbacks (Invitation only) Wednesday, December 6th - 7pm. Rehearsals will be Sundays, Mondays and Wednesdays beginning December 10th. 2 roles
Male presenting actor. The Iconic MLK; Nobel peace prize-winning civil rights movement leader; awe-inspiring, charming, and powerful with a brooding intelligence and almost hidden vulnerability; he can sometimes present as older than his true age; while being a brilliant orator, impassioned preacher, and a fearless leader, he is more than the hero in our history books; brewing underneath is a human carrying all the vulnerability, fear, and weariness of an unquenchable lust for life.
Female presenting actor. A young maid at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee; she is charming, confident, and MLK’s equal; and although deeply human and vulnerable, there’s more to her than is first revealed. She owns the power of her convictions and sensuality, with an “otherworldly” strength; carries a secret.
