About the project: Wit” tells the story of Vivian Bearing, a renowned professor of English literature who specializes in the holy sonnets of John Donne. Her life takes a turn when she is diagnosed with advanced ovarian cancer. As she undergoes rigorous treatment, she begins to reassess her life through the lens of the complex metaphysical poetry that she has spent her life studying. The play is a compelling blend of intellectual humor and emotional depth, as Vivian navigates her illness with biting wit and stoic bravery. It’s a stunning meditation on the importance of empathy, compassion, and the personal connections we make in life.
