About the project: Synopsis: "The Respectful Prostitute" takes place in the American South and revolves around the trial of a black man falsely accused of raping a white woman. The play delves into the deep-seated prejudices, systemic racism, and societal hypocrisy prevalent during that time period. Through its characters and gripping narrative, it confronts the audience with the uncomfortable realities of racial injustice. A black man who is described as "tall" and "strapping" with white hair. He is married and has children. He is on the run because he has been accused of raping Lizzie.
A wealthy white man. The Senator's son. He asks Lizzie to testify against the Negro and accuse him of raping her, so that his cousin, Thomas, will not go to jail for shooting the black man who was with the Negro.LK’
