The space will be open to begin signing in at 8:30 am. - Please prepare one monologue or two brief contrasting monologues to total approximately three minutes. There are no musicals in the season; no singing please. - Each actor must bring one head shot with a resume attached to the back of the photo. About the project: 1. "A DOLL’S HOUSE" First Rehearsal: 8 / 3 / 2023 Opening: 9 / 8 / 2023 Closing: 10 / 1 / 2023 The play follows the story of Nora, a young wife and mother, who appears to have a perfect life with her husband Torvald. However, Nora has been keeping a secret from her husband that threatens to unravel her entire world. 2. "THE CHINESE LADY" First Rehearsal: 9 / 21 / 2023 Opening: 10 / 27 / 2023 Closing: 11 / 19 / 2023 Inspired by the true story of Afong Moy, the first Chinese woman to step foot in America in 1834, this play follows her to New York, where she is destined to become a living curiosity in a museum. As she becomes well-known as a commodified oddity, she struggles to maintain her sense of self and her connection to her heritage. 3. "DIAL M FOR MURDER" First Rehearsal: 11 / 2 / 2023 Opening: 12 / 8 / 2023 Closing: 1 / 7 / 2024 This classic murder mystery follows Tony Wendice, a former tennis player who concocts a plan to murder his wealthy wife, Margot. With the help of a sharp-witted detective, Margot fights to clear her name and reveal the truth about her husband’s deadly scheme gone awry. 4. "CRUMBS FROM THE TABLE OF JOY" First Rehearsal: 12 / 28 / 2023 Opening: 2 / 2 / 2024 Closing: 2 / 25 / 2024 17-year-old Ernestine Crump adjusts to her new life in 1950s Brooklyn after the passing of her mother. Amidst navigating her grief, she finds herself, both physically and spiritually, in an unfamiliar place where odds seem stacked against her. Caught between her father’s spirituality and her aunt’s activism, she learns to find her own definition of the American Dream. 5. "THE BOOK CLUB PLAY" First Rehearsal: 2 / 15 / 2024 Opening: 3 / 22 / 2020 Closing: 4 / 14 / 2024 This hilarious play follows Ana and her friends whose book club becomes the subject of a legendary documentarian. All appears to be going as planned until an unexpected new member throws the group’s dynamics into chaos. 6. "A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM" First Rehearsal: 4 / 11 / 2024 Opening: 5 / 17 / 2024 Closing: 6 / 9 / 2024 Journey to a mystical forest where romantic entanglements become intertwined with the supernatural in this vibrant and provocative take on the classic comedy of love, jealousy, desire, and the complexity of human relationships. "THE CHINESE LADY" (Male presenting): Atung is a manservant employed by Afong Moy’s masters to help her and translate for her to audiences.
"THE CHINESE LADY" Understudy. (Female presenting): She begins the play as an optimistic representative of her culture who sees herself as an ambassador. As she experiences America and its people over the years of her life, we see the evolution of her worldview and her understanding of her role.
"DIAL M FOR MURDER" (Male presenting): A police inspector.
"DIAL M FOR MURDER" Understudy. (Female presenting): The charming, naïve, and wealthy wife of Tony, she has no idea that Tony knows of her past affair with Max, nor does she suspect that Tony is planning to murder her.
"DIAL M FOR MURDER" Understudy. (Female presenting): An American murder mystery writer, she had an affair with Margot during the time Tony was playing professional tennis tournaments in America. She is still in love with Margot and comes to visit the couple in London.
"DIAL M FOR MURDER" Understudy. (Male presenting): Margot’s husband, he is a former professional tennis player who married Margot for her money. He is selfish and arrogant and has an elaborate scheme to murder Margot because of jealousy over a past affair between Margot and Maxine.
"DIAL M FOR MURDER" Understudy. (Male presenting): An old schoolmate of Tony’s and a convicted criminal, he is now being blackmailed by Tony into murdering Margot. He seems willing to do anything for money.
"CRUMBS FROM THE TABLE OF JOY" (Female presenting): The sister of Godfrey’s Crump’s deceased wife, she is a communist, a free thinker from Harlem. She is bold, sexually liberated, and troubled.
"CRUMBS FROM THE TABLE OF JOY" Understudy. (Female presenting): She is a German immigrant who just moved to America after World War II. She is sweet and impressionable and longs for acceptance.
"CRUMBS FROM THE TABLE OF JOY" Understudy. (Male presenting): The family patriarch who, overcome by grief for his recently dead wife, just moved to Brooklyn with his two daughters. He is loving, religious, and often both stoic and awkward.
"THE BOOK CLUB PLAY" (Female presenting): Ana's friend. Pretty. Shy. Smart. Tends to burst out with awkward truthful comments. Despite some lack of self-confidence, she is the grounding center of the group. Unorganized and oblivious to her own attractiveness. Unmarried.
"THE BOOK CLUB PLAY" (Female presenting): A go-getter. Former debate captain who is on the cusp of all current trends and yet can still put her foot in her mouth in social occasions. Laughs at appropriate and inappropriate times. A great lover of books and Ana's protege at the paper.
