When two actors with a history are thrown together as romantic leads in a forgotten 1930s melodrama, they quickly lose touch with reality as the lines between offstage and onstage begin to blur. Stage Kiss captures Sarah Ruhl’s singular voice; it is a charming tale about what happens when lovers share a stage kiss—or when actors share a real one. Additional informaiton: Performances will take place at the Canmore Miners' Union Hall November 15-19 and 23-25, 2023. The dates are as follows: Rehearsals – start Sept 9, Saturday and Sunday during the day, exact times TBC. Tech Rehearsal – Sunday Nov 12 1PM-5PM. Dress Rehearsal - Monday Nov 13 6PM-10PM. An actress who has returned to the theatre after more than a decade away raising a child. She is anxious about getting thrown back into that world, but once she is on-stage, she is vulnerable, funny and commanding. Type A personality, but easily sheds her strongest assertions as she’s swept up in romanticizing the life she once had. Needs a performer with the ability to jump from one emotion to the next. This character is involved in scenes of intimacy in the form of kissing.
An actor who lives in the East Village of NYC, in a grimy studio apartment. Always typecast as the leading man. Charming and sweet, but equally self-absorbed with Peter Pan syndrome. Loves to romanticize. Definitely a Jack Kerouac fan. This character is involved in scenes of intimacy in the form of kissing.
A small time theatre director who doesn’t believe they are a small-time theatre director. They take themselves very seriously. They are passionate and don’t like confrontation but give off a little too much chaotic energy at times.
A young aspirational actor – unfortunately he isn’t very good. He is grateful and excited to be given this opportunity. Is “inspired” by everyone in the room and just wants to prove himself worthy. This character is involved in scenes of intimacy in the form of kissing.
