Film Synopsis: Inspired by a real immigrant father, Sitting Bird is a 20-minute film that centers around a Taiwanese immigrant stay-home-father who struggles with feelings of inadequacy within the family. LEAD, FATHER. Ming is a quiet, introverted, and family-oriented Taiwanese stay-home-father who immigrated to Canada with his two kids, Anthony and Rita, while his wife Fei stayed in Taiwan to pursue her dream career as a pilot. He speaks native Mandarin with English as a second language.
SUPPORTING LEAD, WIFE. Ming’s wife. Fei is a career-driven domestic pilot for Xing Xing Airline in Taiwan. She speaks native Mandarin and self-taught English. Her lifelong dream has been to become a pilot, which makes her torn between dedicating time to her children or striving to advance her career.
SUPPORTING LEAD. FRIEND. Daniel is fluent in Mandarin and has some knowledge of English, and is not shy of using it. With an extroverted nature, he is an ambitious man who owns a successful company and divides his time between Taiwan and occasional visits to his family in Canada.
SUPPORTING, FRIEND. Daniel’s wife. Alice is fluent in Mandarin and has a basic understanding of English. She is a stay-home-mother of two children, although she frequently hires helpers. Alice is a kind woman who remains quite submissive to her husband and loves collecting luxury handbags.
SUPPORTING, AUNT. May is Fei's elder sister who immigrated to Canada with her three children. She is a devoted stay-at-home mother and a submissive wife. She takes care of her kids and their mansion, while her husband Lee works and lives overseas.
SUPPORTING, UNCLE. May’s husband, and is the owner of a textile company in Taiwan, and he flies back and forth between Canada and Taiwan. He speaks native Mandarin with a bit of English. While he may appear amiable, Lee is ambitious and highly calculating and possesses a sense of pride.
