"I Am Frankenstein" Show Looking for Talent
Casting actors for the "I Am Frankenstein" Show, please see the details below. About the project: I Am Frankenstein unearths two creatures who were tortured and abandoned by their makers: Victor’s famous monster, and the teenage writer Mary Shelley herself. A highly theatrical retelling of Shelley's classic, the play adds two principal characters: a haunting chorus known as The Blackbirds, and the troubled Mary Shelley, the story’s creative force. Victor, a promising student obsessed with alchemy, reanimates human life in the basement laboratory of a vacationing professor, only to abandon his creature and allow it to slowly exact revenge... Additional info: Auditions will consist of readings from the script and some interpretive movement direction. The smallest suggested cast is 10 actors. The largest cast is 25 if no doubling is used. PRODUCTION DATES: July 13-15 at 7:30 pm; July 16 at 2:00 pm
14 roles
Powerfully built. Strong enough to carry the actor playing Victor. Emotionally raw and underdeveloped, highly intelligent, with a super-natural gift for imitation and language acquisition. The “man in storm” in the first scene is played by the same actor.
Student of alchemy, chemistry. A young man in a hurry, willing to break rules to achieve greatness.
Victor’s cousin, raised as his sister within the same household. Kind and loving, discerning and moral.
She is Mary Godwin and the eventual Mary Shelley, author of the novel Frankenstein. She is an empath who is dark-natured, deeply affected by her mother’s death and eager to prove her greatness as a writer and exorcize her own demons in the process. (essentially 2 roles)
Best friend of Victor, admirer of Elizabeth. Noble, conscientious, good-natured and funny.
(predominantly feminine presence) any age, chorus of 3-9 actors/dancers/movers/vocalists. Six is perhaps the perfect number.
English sea explorer in the arctic. Admires Victor’s adventurousness and desires fame and fortune.
French chemistry professor. Eccentric, acerbic, judgmental, intellectually superior, witty.
The writer Lord Byron. Egotistical, confident genius who is something of a misogynist, and an antagonist to Mary.
Victor’s father and Elizabeth’s adoptive father.
The writer Percy Shelley. In a relationship with Mary, though he is married to another woman. A weak defender of his lover, and a man who takes a back seat to Byron.
Corsican maid. Nurturing earth mother. Could also be member of the Blackbirds but should not be doubled with Mary.
