A man who knows from experience how bad things can get, and while he doesn’t live in fear, he lives with that awareness. Longs for a sense of safety. "PRAYER FOR THE FRENCH REPUBLIC"

French-Algerian. Marcelle and Charles’ son. Elodie’s younger brother. A newly orthodox Jew who takes pride in his religious identity. A teacher at a Jewish school. A bit of an introvert who feels things strongly. Easy to like. "PRAYER FOR THE FRENCH REPUBLIC"

Marcelle's brother and uncle to Daniel and Elodie. Our narrator. An entirely secular Jew with a dark sense of humor. Considers himself to be too intelligent to practice religion. The Salomon’s distant American cousin. In France to study abroad; she hopes to connect to a family history that is unavailable to her in America. Wants to use her family history to ground herself. Gravitates toward family to ease her feeling of being an outsider. A bright and opinionated young woman who is optimistic and game. Marcelle and Patrick’s father. The last of many generations to run the family’s piano store. A Holocaust survivor. The pain of his memories is kept in check by unflagging pragmatism, his belief in the primacy of family, and the familiarity of the piano store. His mind remains as sharp as ever. Pierre’s grandfather; Lucien’s father and Marcelle and Patrick’s great-grandfather. A quiet man, prone to inferiority. Perceptive and kind, and skilled at navigating and soothing family members’ distress. Is scared for his children and wishes for their family to be together once again. Pierre’s grandmother; Lucien’s mother and Marcelle and Patrick’s great-grandmother. Unsentimental and very French. Not religious. A Jewish mother who survived in her apartment with her husband, not knowing the fate of any of their children. Resilient and caring. "PRAYER FOR THE FRENCH REPUBLIC"

Irma and Adolphe’s son. Pierre’s father. A Holocaust survivor. Shattered and shell shocked. Dazed to be back in the world, but he persists for his son’s sake. His son is his tether to life, a future, and the belief that good still exists. Stillness on the surface; tumult underneath. Longs for peace. "PRAYER FOR THE FRENCH REPUBLIC"

TEDRA's son. Juicy is thicc, beautiful, lonely, smart. Proud of his identity as a Queer man; tired of being criticized for not being like his family members. A deep thinker. Newly empowered to stand up for himself. Feels out of control in his life; he is desperately trying to regain that control. A kind of Hamlet. "FAT HAM"

JUICY's mother. She is religious and afraid of being judged. Her reputation is very important to her. A good mother. Very afraid of being alone. A kind of Gertrude. "FAT HAM"

REV – TEDRA's husband. Her dead ex-husband (PAP)'s brother. A pig farmer and pit master. Frequently seeks out conflict. Seeks a monopoly on power in his family system; afraid that this power will be taken away from him. A kind of Claudius. PAP – The Ghost of JUICY's father. Was in prison for killing someone cause their breath stank, til he got shanked on the way to dinner. Desperately needs JUICY to avenge his death; wants his son to "be a man." "FAT HAM"

Queer. One of Juicy's only friends. She loves JUICY and worries about him. She speaks her mind and is tired of her family telling her who to be. Feels stuck in her life. Does not feel seen by others. A kind of Ophelia. "FAT HAM"

Queer. OPAL's brother. Attracted to JUICY, but he hides his feelings towards men. A Marine. Trying to heal from PTSD. Awkward and anxious. Feels that his identity doesn't align with how others see him. Lonely and confused; longs for JUICY to save him from his doubt in himself. A kind of Laertes. "FAT HAM"

Mother to LARRY and OPAL. TEDRA's friend. Semi-churchy but honestly she just wanna drink and praise the Lord. She disapproves of JUICY's identity and has specific aspirations for her children. A kind of Polonius. "FAT HAM"

Juicy's cousin and oldest friend. He has no filter and just wants to have a good time. Clever. Distracts himself so as not to have to think deeply about himself or his life. A kind of Horatio. "FAT HAM"

Filipina. Her full name is Luningning Ignacia Mangahas de la Rosario Bustos. Moved to the U.S. from the Philippines, she feels out of place and longs to belong. A dreamer, through and through; she craves adventure. Her mind moves faster than her mouth. Easily excitable with a goofy sense of humor. She masks her insecurities about not pursuing her ambitions with her excitable and bubbly personality. "THE HEART SELLERS"

Korean. Although she now goes by Jane, her name is Hong Jae Ha. She recently moved to the U.S. from Korea. She longs for a sense of home. Finds it difficult to form connections and make friends since moving, but she's self-reliant. She loves to paint. Deeply hopeful and empathetic, she approaches new situations with curiosity and kindness. Has a giddy sense of humor that reveals itself once she is comfortable enough to let her guard down. English teacher. A former golden boy, but one of those rare smart and sensitive ones. A great teacher: charming, engaging, goofy, and enthusiastic. "JOHN PROCTOR IS THE VILLAIN"

(24 yo) High school guidance counselor. Sweet in all the ways Southern women are supposed to be. This is her first real job out of college. She has good intentions and is trying her best. Any race. "JOHN PROCTOR IS THE VILLAIN"

A young king, tough and powerful. He has just been released from prison and is trying to rebuild his life. He is ambitious, he projects an aura of authority and righteousness that few would expect from someone with his past. Is looking to rewrite his path and running straight towards a prophecy he doesn't know about, and will unknowingly fulfill. He's confident, impulsive, and serious. He lives in the extreme ends of emotion, very Greek in that sense. "OEDIPUS EL REY"

The Old King, ruthless. Willing to do anything to hold on to his power and throne. Deeply values loyalty. Can be superstitious at times. Also performs as part of the chorus and as the Bone Healer. "OEDIPUS EL REY"

The Queen. Defends and stands up for her people. She is sexy, grounded, and forever mourning the death of her son. Strong-willed, holds on to her faith despite everything life has thrown in her path, bold. Speaks her mind, doesn't hold back her punches. Full frontal nudity is required for this role. Jocasta's brother. Has a less than pleasant past, met Oedipus in the Youth Authority. Loyal to the "family business". Has a deep understanding of the town's traditions, demands respect. Projects an aura of authority that falls flat. Yearns for power, wants to be king. Also performs as part of the chorus and as the Owl Oracle and Sphinx. "OEDIPUS EL REY"

Blind Servant. He is Laius' right hand servant. He is in a constant search for faith and knowledge and follows his conscience. Takes Oedipus under his wing, treats him as his son. Will do anything for him, including get himself into the same prison to be with him. Also performs as part of the chorus. "OEDIPUS EL REY"

Star player of the Negro Baseball Leagues for nearly a dozen years. Based on a historical figure. Highly personable, athletic, and charismatic. Toni wants to be treated as equal to her male counterparts and is comfortable in her own skin. She demands respect and shuns the idea of receiving special treatment. “A young and sexy 63”; a Jamaican businessman and Toni’s eventual husband. He's in love with Toni’s mind and drawn to her energy. Suave, bold, and charismatic. Masculine; Toni’s confidant and closest friend. A lady of Madame Mamie’s Gentleman’s Club. Funny, self-assured, won't take crap from anybody. She's a survivor, she's unapologetic. The celebrity of the team, King has baseball in his blood. Looking for his next opportunity to join the major leagues and trying to hold on to his confidence and hope that he'll make it. A tough talking member of the Indianapolis Clowns baseball team whose swagger and macho mannerisms often cover up his closeted sexuality. Catcher, team manager, and coach of the Indianapolis Clowns. Stretch is the most talented catcher in the Negro League. Understands his team’s strengths and weaknesses. Organized and methodical.
