About the project: The Spitfire Grill is a folksy musical about redemption, family, and love. A feisty parolee follows her dreams, based on a page from an old travel book, to a small town in Wisconsin and finds a place for herself working at Hannah's Spitfire Grill. The Grill is for sale, but there are no takers for the only eatery in the depressed town, so newcomer Percy convinces Hannah to raffle it off. Entry fees are one hundred dollars and the best essay on why you want the Grill wins. Soon, mail arrives by the wheelbarrow and things really start cookin' at the Spitfire Grill. Additional info: -Callbacks will be held Monday night, March 27th, at 7 pm. -Performance Dates: June 2nd - 11th, 2023 -Tech Week starts May 27th -Rehearsals start April 4th and are Tues/Thurs 7:00-9:30 pm and Sat/Sun 1 pm-6 pm -All rehearsals and performances will be held in Mansfield, TX. -For the audition, please prepare one memorized 32-bar cut of a folk song or music theatre piece in the style of the show. An accompanist will NOT be provided, so please bring a pre-recorded accompaniment track of your cut to the audition. We will provide the means to play your audition track through an audio device. -Callbacks will include singing, cold reading from sides, and a dance call. -Note: All characters (besides Percy) speak in “standard Mid-Western” speech, without “countrified” intonations. A young small-town policeman with an appealing intensity and a restless nature. Strong folk tenor to a ‘G’ (touches an ‘A’).
Postmistress and busybody, a woman with narrow eyes and a sour tongue. Solid singer in mezzo/alto chest range.
