About the project:
It’s the brassy, bright, and promising year of 1959. Boston’s Colonial Theatre is host to the opening night performance of a new musical. When the leading lady mysteriously dies on stage, the entire cast and crew become suspects. It is up to a local fast-talking detective, who just happens to be a musical theatre fan, to save the show, solve the case, and maybe even find love, all without getting killed. Packed with glorious tunes from the legendary songwriting team of Kander & Ebb, Curtains is a witty and hilarious musical whodunit that you won’t want to miss!

All auditionees should arrive at 7:00 p.m. on the day they sign up for and be prepared for a dance audition from 7:00 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. Auditionees will then be called in for vocal auditions in groups of 10 or less. Please prepare 16 bars of a song in the style of or from the show. All those auditioning should bring sheet music in the correct key – an accompanist will be provided.

Local Boston detective who is also a musical theatre aficionado. Aside from being exceptionally good at his job, he has also aspired to be a musical theatre performer his entire life. He falls in love with Niki.

Pretty, naïve ingénue. Niki is a chorus girl/understudy in the chorus of the show-within-the-show during its Boston tryout. She aspires to make it as a performer on Broadway. She meets and falls in love with Dt. Frank Cioffi who is investigating a murder at the theatre. Actress must have legit Soprano and good comic timing.

About the project:
Be careful what you wish for” seems to be the ongoing theme in Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s Brothers Grimm-inspired musical, Into the Woods. The story follows The Baker and his wife who wish to have a child, Cinderella who wishes to go the King’s Festival, and Jack who wishes his cow would give some milk. When the Baker and his wife are visited by the neighborhood witch, who reveals to them that she placed a curse on their family, the two set off on a journey into the woods to reverse the curse. Also in the woods, we meet Little Red, who is trying to visit her grandmother, the Wolf who loves tasty little girls, the Witch’s daughter Rapunzel, and the Princes chasing after their loves. By the end of Act I, everyone has gotten their wish and will seemingly live happily ever after. But in Act II, when Jack’s beanstalk brings them a visit from an angry Giant, we see how the consequences of their actions haunt them in disastrous ways. The community must come together to save each other and their kingdom, but sacrifices must be made.

Determined and bright woman who wishes to be a mother. She leads a simple, yet satisfying life and is very low-maintenance yet proactive in her endeavors.

About the project: 
The beloved centuries old tale of Cinderella never goes out of style. This co-production is based on the fresh and exciting adaptation created for Broadway in 2013. The musical boasts a score by the beloved team of Rodgers and Hammerstein that includes In My Own Little Corner, Ten Minutes Ago, Do I Love You Because You’re Beautiful, A Lovely Night and more with a script by Douglas Carter Beane updated for modern sensibilities. Wishes and happy endings can come true.
The tale has been told and retold from the Grimm Brothers tale to Disney’s animated version to Rodgers and Hammerstein’s musical created for television with Julie Andrews in 1957 to additional television versions with Lesley Ann Warren in 1957 and Brandy Norwood in 1997 to stage versions based on the 1957 television script to a movie version and more. In 2013 the tale debuted on Broadway with the original Rodgers and Hammerstein beloved score and a new script by Beane that was updated from the original by Oscar Hammerstein II and starred Laura Osnes as Cinderella, Santino Fontana as the Prince and Victoria Clark as the Fairy Godmother. The Theatre previously presented Cinderella twice in 1996 and 2007, both times utilizing the stage adaptation based on the Julie Andrews televised production. This will be the first time the Broadway re-scripted production will be presented by the group.
