About the project: SOUL CLOWN is an absurdist take on the coming of age story about a repressed woman, The Wanderer, who feels trapped in her childhood home. In a moment of distress and desperation, she decides to flee, planning to check herself into a mental health facility. Thwarting her plans is an allusive and mysterious clown, who The Wanderer chases into the city. Along the way, she runs into a series of peculiar strangers, some of whom invite her to dance and others who make the danger of the outside world more apparent. Faced with a decision to confront parts of her identity, she must overcome the obstacles the day throws at her to find her way to safety. THE WANDERER runs away from home to go to a mental hospital to catch a break, too old to be this inexperienced in the world, the anger bubbles inside and they don’t know how to let it out, has as much pent up whimsy as they do anger. Must be comfortable with body movement and dance.
(Lead): Female presenting adult, whimsy wisdom, free from embarrassment, saves the day with vibrancy and expression, knows the pain but persists with joy. Must be comfortable with body movement and dance.
Adult woman, protective girl’s girl, someone who speaks up, not afraid to throw hands, knows how to drive a car.
(Supporting, he/him): Persistent, clingy, relentless, lives in an apartment even though he’s in between jobs right now and no one has any idea how he affords it but he just does, will ask strangers for $5 and not elaborate.
