Joseph Weizenbaum was a real life MIT professor and computer scientist who invented the first AI chatbot, which he named ELIZA. Joseph was a Jewish emigre who fled Berlin in 1935 with family when Hitler came to power. At MIT, he experimented with any early version of a computer chatbot he named ELIZA. People would "talk" to ELIZA for hours, and often confuse her for a real person. Joseph saw this as deeply disturbing. He would later become a lifelong Anti-AI advocate.
