About the project: SYNOPSIS: Petticoats of Steel is a play-within-a-play in which two female-identifying actors, Kimberly and Iris, meet in front of an audience gathered to see a play about women’s suffrage. Kimberly has performed this play many times with another actor named Judy. To her surprise, Kimberly learns that Judy has called out sick and her agent has sent a younger actor named Iris to take her place. Although Iris is new to the play, she soon brings a fresh and fiery perspective to the material. Drawn from primary sources, the scenes explore the true stories of New York women and their efforts to win voting rights for all women in the United States. The show moves chronologically from the early 1830’s through the passage of the 19th Amendment in 1920. Rate: TYA $688 weekly minimum + health and pension Additional info: This audition will run on a first come, first serve basis the morning of the audition. Doors will open at 9:30am. Audition day break: 1:00PM - 2:00PM. No roles will be understudied. PREPARATION Please prepare a 1-2 minute comedic monologue. Please bring a headshot and resume stapled together. First Rehearsal: Feb. 1, 2027 First Performance: Feb. 22, 2027 Closing Performance: March 27, 2027 An Equity Monitor will not be provided. The producer will run all aspects of this audition. Actors should enjoy performing for and interacting with young audiences (middle and high school students). There are post-show discussions after every performance (time permitting).
