Mooreland Productions seeks actors and dancers ages 18+ for The Beulaville Baptist Book Club Presents: A Bur-Less-Q Nutcracker, celebrating its 18th season as a DFW holiday favorite! Part of Holidays After Dark at The Oak Cliff Assembly in Dallas. ABOUT THE SHOW A struggling book club plans a Nutcracker fundraiser, but Madge’s Piña Colada Casserole sidelines the ballet company. A stranded burlesque troupe, the Velvet Kittens, steps in to save the evening. This fast-paced theatrical comedy features outrageous misunderstandings, adult humor, physical comedy, & choreographed dance. Seeking expressive performers with comic timing, ensemble skills, & personality. Dance experience preferred; strong actors who can learn choreography are welcome. All listed ages are playing ages. Performers 18+ who can portray the characters are encouraged to audition. COMPENSATION $150 stipend per performer for the full 3 weekend, 10-performance run, + a share of pooled audience gratuities.

ACTOR / MOVEMENT ROLE Playing age: 30s to mid-50s+. Male character. A kindhearted, literal-minded Southern good ol’ boy pulled into the fundraiser’s chaos. Requires strong comic timing, physical comedy, audience interaction, and confident stage presence. Strong movement skills preferred; dance experience a plus. Choreography may be adapted. All ages are playing ages. Performers must be 18+.
ACTOR ROLE Playing age: 30s to 70s. Female character. The book club’s sincere but hilariously oblivious treasurer, whose disastrous cooking derails the fundraiser. Means well, misses the obvious, and delivers outrageous lines with complete conviction. Requires comic timing, expressive reactions, and strong ensemble skills. All ages are playing ages. Performers must be 18+.
ACTOR ROLE Playing age: 30s to 70s. Female character. A warm, churchgoing peacekeeper trying to maintain order amid increasingly outrageous chaos. Requires comic timing, expressive reactions, and physical comedy. Written as a Black woman. Black performers especially encouraged; performers of all ethnicities welcome to audition. All ages are playing ages. Performers must be 18+.
ACTOR ROLE Playing age: 50s to 70s. Female character. The book club’s founder, whose wandering attention and unexpected remarks conceal moments of sharp insight and authority. Requires strong comic timing, character work, and audience interaction. A memorable role balancing seemingly scattered behavior with surprising command of the room. All ages are playing ages. DANCER / ACTOR ROLE Playing age: 20s to 40s. Female character. The capable leader of the Velvet Kittens, trying to organize her troupe and rescue the fundraiser amid chaos.
