About the project: Mariam, a young Palestinian-American caretaker is tasked with taking care of elaine, an 80 year-old patient at a retirement home. when she meets elaine's bigoted and islamophobic daughter meryl, each of these three women have their beliefs challenged and have to confront the toll and sacrifices made in choosing a side. Arab/Palestinian. Cis-female (she/her). Mariam is a young Palestinian caretaker who is on the first day of her new job. she presents herself to others as kind, open and empathetic because she knows the consequences her family could face if she's taken into wrong account. Separated from her parents back home, she feels more isolated by the day as her own mother is too broken to talk to her.
Cis-female (she/her). Meryl is a middle-aged conservative woman who is bitter, pompous, and extremely bigoted. married into big money and dresses like it. Meryl's relationship with her opposing mother Elaine is at its final stages, as she gains jealousy with Elaine's and Mariam's growing relationship and uses her wealth, status, and learned anger as a substitute to project the pain and the baggage that she carries.
Cis-female (she/her). Elaine is a resident at a retirement home who is far different from her daughter. The conservative views she had are long gone - what she was and had doesn't matter because she treats everyone on the same level as her. Entering the late stage of her life, everything that elaine fought for, believed in, and pushed through only now affects her relationship with her daughter Meryl. The nature of how Meryl turned out suggests a dark and highly complicated past for Elaine.
