Her one big beat needs to land as a private, quiet triumph rather than an outward celebration. One scene at the end requires deep, hopeful emotion. Character notes: Studious, precise, type A. Careful never to promise more than she is certain of. Incapable of leaving something unfinished. (1) 10 hour day.
Brown hair, light beard, glasses. Ability to play saxophone is strongly preferred, but not a requirement. Possibly a small woodwind instrument would be considered. Needs to carry real vulnerability, often in the same scene. His biggest beat (playing saxophone mid brain surgery) requires him to convey focus & quiet, hard won triumph. A professional saxophone session player & music teacher. Guarded, keeps a small circle, but the audience needs to see the guard drop by the end. (1) 10 hour day.
Required skills: Some surgical knowledge, even if rudimentary, is preferred. Performance range: Restrained & internal for most of the film with sequences of deep thought & concerned pondering. Needs one strong, unguarded, emotional moment near the end that reads as earned, not sudden. The departure from his natural, restrained air needs to feel authentic. Character notes: Serious, deliberate, methodical. Quiet but warm underneath. Knowledgeable without being cold. Days of Work: (1) 10 hour day.
Performance range: Needs to convincingly convey physical exhaustion and visible strain from prolonged illness, while still communicating hope and strength underneath it. Several key beats rely entirely on facial performance. Character notes: A fighter, a mother, a teacher. Has been waiting a long time for a heart and kidney transplant. Never loses hope, even as the future stays uncertain. Days of Work: (1) 10 hour day.
