About the project: "The Last Dance" is a dramatic short film about Emma, a 13-year-old girl who, on her birthday six months after the death of her mother, discovers a key to the abandoned dance studio her mother left behind. As Emma begins to dance through the grief she has been unable to express, her emotionally withdrawn father is forced to confront his own loss and find a way back to his daughter. A deeply visual story about grief, memory, family, and the ways we carry the people we have lost. Rate: $500.00 – $750.00 per week. Additional info: SAG-AFTRA short project agreement. Supporting lead. Emma’s father. The role requires tremendous emotional subtlety. Much of Mark’s performance lives in silence, behavior, and what he cannot bring himself to say. In the film’s emotional climax, Mark enters his late wife’s dance studio and joins his daughter on the floor. He is very specifically not a dancer. The beauty of the sequence comes from watching a father who has no idea what he is doing make the choice to meet his daughter where she is. No dance experience required.
Supporting. Emma’s mother and Mark’s late wife. A dancer and deeply loving mother whose presence continues to live inside both Emma and Mark six months after her death. She appears primarily through intimate memory fragments of family life. The role requires warmth, joy, emotional openness, and an effortless maternal connection. Dance or movement experience is strongly preferred. The performer will also provide an important voice over moment at the conclusion of the film.
