Performers needed for "The Drowsy Chaperone" with the Utah Shakespeare Festival. See more details below. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE CONSIDERED. Rate: LORT B: $1,213 weekly minimum. Additional info: Contract Dates: May 3 – September 4, 2027. All roles will be understudied. Performers will appear in more than one show. All roles require strong comedic timing. All singing roles require strong musical theatre voices with the ability to learn and retain harmony. Ability to lean into a vintage 1920s–1950s vaudeville/musical comedy vocal sensibility is a plus. Non-singers: prepare either a 1½-minute Shakespeare monologue (no sonnets) or a 1½-minute contemporary monologue. Singers: prepare a 1½-minute Shakespeare monologue (no sonnets) and 16 bars of a Broadway-style song showing range and vocal prowess. Equity membership card required. An Equity monitor will not be provided; the producer will run all aspects of the audition. If interested, please apply.

(Male-identifying). A musical theatre aficionado who narrates the show from his apartment while listening to a vintage LP record. He is a lonely soul who fills his time by escaping into the world of old Broadway shows, but he still urgently wants to find connection, so the audience becomes his focus. His passion and type-A personality can seem odd or off-putting to some. Vocal range (minimal singing): Bass/Baritone character singer (G2-C4).

JANET VAN de GRAAFFBoth genders20-39 y.o.All ethnicities

(Female-identifying). A glamorous and famous star/bride who claims she wants to give up her career for love. This role requires strong dance technique and style. Vocal range: Alto/Mezzo with a strong belt (G3-E5, optional A5).

THE DROWSY CHAPERONEBoth genders40-59 y.o.All ethnicities

(Female-identifying). Janet’s brassy, larger-than-life, constantly intoxicated, confidante. A classic powerhouse diva role. Vocal range: Alto with strong belt (F3-D5).

(Male-identifying). The dashing, perpetually optimistic groom and matinee idol. His comedy comes from his honest naivete. Must be able to tap dance and roller skate. Vocal range: Tenor or High Baritone (C3-A4).

(Male-identifying). A stressed-out Broadway producer so desperate to stop Janet from quitting he works with mob investors. Vocal range: Baritone (Db3-Db4).

(Female-identifying). The wealthy, eccentric, absent-minded widow hosting the wedding. She’s high energy, and the role requires physical gags (such as spit takes). Vocal range: Alto character voice (F3-Db5).

(Male-identifying). Mrs. Tottendale’s dry, stoic, and sarcastic butler who acts as her deadpan comic foil. Vocal range: Tenor character voice (Ab2-Gb4).
