The Protagonist Role in the Story: The family outsider and protector of her younger stepbrother, Noah. She carries the burden of her biological family's tragic past.
The Family Unit role. Role in the Story: Devyn’s stepfather. A rigid, authoritative pastor drowning under severe financial stress and the desperation to make his new ministry succeed.
Role in the Story: Devyn and Noah’s mother. She is a deeply tragic figure, entirely hollowed out by past trauma and current financial exhaustion.
