Cast and Extras Call for a Short Film Series
ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. Seeking talented and passionate actors for lead roles in upcoming original short film series exploring themes of sustainability and everyday choices! See the details below. Abbout the project: The series consists of 6 individual short films (approximately 1–2 minutes each), exploring plastic pollution from personal habits and convenience to economic pressures and global politics, and asking: what does convenience really cost? Rate: Each actor will be paid a stipend of $150 for their participation. Additional information: No experience is required. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Filming will take place on the following dates in Toronto: Sunday, September 20 Saturday, September 26 Sunday, September 27 Plus one overflow/pickup day — either Tuesday, September 29 or Saturday, October 10 (exact date TBD; used for overflow scenes, behind-the-scenes/cast interviews, or reshoots) Please note: Actors will be expected to participate in TWO of the three core filming dates (September 20, 26, and 27). Because directors are coordinating a larger production, please only apply if you can commit to all three core dates and are likely to be available for the overflow/pickup day as well. Lead. A charming, stubborn old-school figure. He's heard "quit smoking" a thousand times and has a well-worn defensive reflex to it. Played with dry humor and mild grumpiness rather than malice because he's not a villain, just set in his ways. As the lobbyist, he needs a sharper edge: greedy, evasive, quietly self-interested, pushy and experienced. Someone skilled at protecting his position without ever raising his voice.
Lead. The mother is practical, a little tired, and used to being the one who manages everyone else's habits. She's the household's moral enforcer, especially toward her father's smoking. The actor should convey warmth mixed with low-grade exhaustion and needs strong reactive acting for the turning point. Strong, subtle facial work. The shift needs to read without dialogue.
Lead. As the Father, he's warm and easygoing, a normal, sympathetic guy in a household setting. As the Chair, he needs to flip into something entirely different: stern, formal, and controlled, fluent in the art of saying nothing with authority. The comedy relies on him playing it completely straight, never winking at the camera.
Lead. He is easygoing, a little scattered, and completely unaware of his own habits, but not lazy or careless by nature. The actor should play him with warmth and casual charm, someone who is likable and relatable rather than a slob. His arc needs a believable shift from oblivious comfort to quiet, dawning horror. So he needs range to go from chill and distracted to genuinely shaken.
