Open Casting Call: Filming in Atlanta The White Room , a Psychological Thriller loosely based on true events that happened to one of the writers. This is only a summary of each character, a full character breakdown and audition dialogue will be sent when you send your headshot, resume and demo reel. All are welcome to audition. This is a paid project. Casting closes Thanksgiving. When a graphic designer checks into a hospital for a migraine, she wakes up in a psychiatric ward where patients are harvested for organs by a shadow corporate network. With her retired-cop father and brother fighting to expose the truth from the outside, she must escape a facility where the doctors are monsters–before her scheduled surgery.

Casting: Female in 40s. Type/Description: Rachel is an intelligent, independent graphic designer and devoted mother whose ordinary life is shattered when a severe headache lands her in Mercy General Hospital. Actor Notes: The performance needs to transition through several distinct stages

Charles Shepard (Lead/Rachel's Father/65)Male60-70 y.o.African-American

Casting: Male in 60s. Type/Description: Charles is a retired police officer with decades of experience reading people, investigating inconsistencies and recognizing when something doesn’t add up. Actor Notes: Should rarely appear panicked and most powerful moments should come when he becomes quiet rather than loud. His anger is controlled.

Darren Shepard (Supporting Lead/Rachel's Brother/30)Male27-32 y.o.African-American

Casting: Male in late 20s-early 30s. Type/Description: Darren is a construction worker and Rachel’s younger brother. He is physically imposing but emotionally sensitive. Unlike Charles, Darren operates from emotion. Actor Notes: His relationship with Charles is important and there should be tension between Charles’s “think first” and Darren’s “we don’t have time”. That difference creates much of their dramatic energy.

Dr. Reyes (Supporting Lead/Antagonist/40s-50s)Female47-52 y.o.Latino / Hispanic

Casting: Female late 40s-early 50s. Type/Description: Head of Psychiatry at Mercy General she is calm, professional and extremely dangerous. Actor Notes: NEVER overplay her villainy. The scarier she is when she’s calm, polite and reasonable.

Agent Park (Supporting Lead/FBI Investigator/Ally/40s)Female40-49 y.o.All ethnicities

Casting: Female in 40s. Type/Description: Park is intelligent, compassionate and methodical. She’s investigating a pattern of missing people before the Shepard Family fully understands what is happening. Actor Notes: Should initially question Rachel’s story. Park’s belief in Rachel should eventually feel earned.

Jacoba Shepard (Supporting/Rachel's Daughter/16)Female18-22 y.o.African-American

Casting: Female, teenager to early 20s (who looks young). Type/Description: Represents the life Rachel is desperately trying to return to. Jacoba’s relationship with Rachel should feel authentic: loving but occasionally strained by Jacoba’s desire for independence.

Casting: Female in 30s. Type/Description: Possibly the hospital’s next victim. This character’s storyline leads into a possible sequel.

Casting: Female in late 20s-early 30s (who looks young). Major Supporting character to Rachel. Type/Description: Psychiatric patient who has already learned how Mercy General operates. She’s frightened, guarded and emotionally damaged. Tanya becomes Rachel’s first source of information about the hospital. Actor Notes: Her fear should feel different from Rachel’s .

Marcus (Supporting/Psych Ward Patient 50s)Male50-59 y.o.All ethnicities

Casting: Male in 50s. Type/Description: Marcus is a former accountant who notices patterns others miss. The screenplay establishes him as trembling and frightened but knowledgeable about the hospital’s numbers.

Jack (Supporting/Psych Ward Patient/45)Male40-49 y.o.All ethnicities

Casting: Male in 40s. Type/Description: Jack appears to be mentally unstable and constantly mutters about the “harvest”. Is he crazy or does he understand what’s happening? Actor Notes: Don’t play Jack as simply “crazy”. There should be moments where the audience sees intelligence underneath the behavior.

Agent Sandoval (Supporting/FBI Investigator/40s)Male40-49 y.o.Latino / Hispanic

Casting: Male in 40s. Type/Description: Agent Park's Partner. Serious and a deep thinker. Actor Notes: Should not simply become the “other FBI agent”. Give Sandoval a distinct investigative style.

Hospital Desk Clerk (Minor Supporting/Front Desk Clerk/20s-40s)Both genders20-49 y.o.All ethnicities

Casting: Female or Male in 20s-40s. Type/Description: Works at the hospital’s front desk and initially claims Rachel doesn’t exist in the hospital’s system. The screenplay shows the clerk's eyes moving toward the security cameras before she finally admits Rachel was taken to the psychiatric ward unit. Actor Notes: Doesn’t have to be a evil character but definitely afraid of getting in trouble with the organization.

Stranger (Minor Supporting/1-2 speaking lines/20s or older)Both genders20-70 y.o.All ethnicities

Casting: Female or Male, 20s or older. Type/Description: Runs into Rachel in the beginning of the film when Rachel is on her way to the hospital.

Casting: Female or Male, 20s or older. Type/Description: Random Nurse that checks on Rachel throughout the film.

Casting: Female, mid 20s or older. Type/Description: Just like Rachel, this woman is being held against her will at this hospital. She keeps telling the hospital nothing is wrong and no one is listening. Realizes she is being taken to “harvest”. Actor Notes: Frantic and terrified. She just wants help but no one listens to her.

Orderlies/Security Guards (Minor Supporting/18+)Both genders18-70 y.o.All ethnicities

Casting: F or M , ANY age but MUST be at least 18+. Recurring antagonists with 1-2 speaking lines. Type/Description: Represent the physical enforcements at Mercy General. All Orderlies/Security Guard should not be portrayed identically on screen. The Orderlies/Security Guards are minor supporting roles but will mostly be a part of the extras/background actors. Actor Notes: Portray each one differently. Examples included in FULL character breakdown. Some scenes are physical performances only.

Casting: Male 20s or older. Type/Description: Men in suits arrive after Rachel, Charles and Darren escape. First clear indication that Mercy General isn’t the entire organization. The organization’s enforcers and a major recurring threat. Actor Notes: Professional, emotionless and efficient. 1 Suit has a speaking part. Suits are minor supporting roles but will mostly be a part of extra/background actors. Voice 1 lines at the end of the film will also be given to the 1 Suit with speaking lines.

Axiom Holdings (Minor Supporting/Corporate Antagonist/21+)Both genders21-70 y.o.All ethnicities

Casting: Female or Male 21+. 1 speaking line . Type/Description: The organization is not necessarily a traditional character but it functions almost like one. Financial infrastructure behind Mercy General’s Operation. Actor Notes: Unknown Voice (O.S.) in the middle of the film and Voice 2 (O.S.) at the end of the film will be given to Axiom Holdings. The audience never sees Axiom Holdings but the organization is what drives the film to a potential sequel. Best fit for a voice actor.
