About the play: "Calendar Girls" is a critically acclaimed, heartwarming comedy-drama based on a true story. It features a group of middle-aged women who pose tastefully nude for a charity calendar to honor a lost loved one. A perfect balance of hilarity, poignant grief, and body positivity. (There are also parts for men and young women). Additional information: Call Backs: October 17 – 2:00 to 4:00 pm. Rehearsals: To start mid-January, 2027. Audition Requirements: Please prepare a 1-2 minute monologue. Keep it short and sassy – and we may ask you to read from the script. NO ACCENTS REQUIRED. Outgoing, funny, cheeky, free-spirited, she likes to be the centre of attention. A ringleader always looking for ways to make life fun - especially for Annie.
Less carefree than Chris, but she enjoys having a giggle. She is warm and full of heart, with enough edge to keep things interesting.
Piano player. Rebellious rock’n roller in her youth, she is now church pianist, a divorcee and a joker. She has enough musical ability to lead the gang as they sing “Jerusalem” at the start of their meetings.
A retired teacher. Witty, engaging and at times formidable. A lover of life, she is brave and unaffected, and brooks no nonsense.
A bit of an outsider, she has joined the club for her own amusement. She also has a rebellious spirit and brings a bit of pizazz (and vodka) to the group.
At first a rather weak-willed lackey trying to keep everyone happy, Ruth absorbs inner strength from the women around her and eventually embraces life - with gusto.
The boss. A stickler for appearances and propriety, she feels this group is beneath her, socially, and members of the group tolerate her - but just barely.
Annie’s husband. A human sunflower. Not a saint or a hero. When he dies, it feels like someone somewhere turned a light off.
Chris’s husband. You have to be a certain kind of guy to stick with Chris and Rod loves it. Deadpan humour, likes his beer, and is very hard working.
The photographer - hesitant and a bit shy, but he has enough warmth, spirit and artistry to make the calendar work. At the shoot, he is all about the photos - not the nudity.
She doesn’t mean to be patronising, but seems to be from a different world. Fancy dresser, posh, she glides in like a galleon.
A beautician who feels she knows SO much more about everything than her elders.
He is sent to do a commercial photo shoot of the newly famous Calendar ladies, but he feels his time and talents would be far better spent elsewhere.
