"Junko" Student Film Needs Actors
Casting actors for thesis film, a short coming-of-age drama "Junko". ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE CONSIDERED. Please see the roles below. About the project: The film follows a 16-year-old first-generation Asian American who spends his summer working as a lighting technician at the local theater in his hometown. Trapped in a strained family dynamic and uncertain of who he’s meant to become, he stumbles upon an unexpected passion that offers him something he’s never known. “There’s a place that exists in movies, theater, and poetry where you can be free.” Rate: This is an unpaid student film opportunity. Supporting, East Asian. Harou immigrated to America with his wife and eldest son before Alex was born. Determined to build a stable future for his family, he creates a traditional household rooted in structure, discipline, and respect for hierarchy. A firm believer in hard work and perseverance, Harou holds his sons to high standards. He envisions a specific path to success and expects them to follow it. Note: Bilingual (English/East Asian language)
Supporting, East Asian. Saito is the mother of three children-Eiden, Alex, and their baby brother. As a stay-at-home mom, she serves as the emotional backbone of the family, holding everyone together through the chaos of daily life. Warm, attentive, and deeply caring, Saito constantly juggles countless responsibilities at once. Note: Bilingual (English/East Asian language).
Supporting, East Asian. Eiden is the eldest son, born in his family's home country and raised between two cultures that shaped his identity in conflicting ways. Throughout his life, he followed the path Harou laid out for him, meeting every expectation placed upon him without question. Beneath that success, however, Eiden is beginning to confront the cost of surrendering ownership of his own life.
Supporting. Camila is a successful theater director and a former actress. She is the mother of two children, Manuela and Felipe, who practically grew up in the theater. Camila believes great theater is built on trust and connection. As a single mother, bringing them to work was never really a choice-it was simply life. Over time, she learned to embrace it, turning the theater into a second home for them.
Supporting. Dallas is heavily inspired by the character "Fuckshit" in Mid90s. He is impulsive, and impossible to ignore, he moves through life one day at a time. Every joke is bigger than it needs to be, every story is exaggerated, and every bad idea somehow sounds fun when it comes out of his mouth. Underneath this persona, there's someone desperate to belong and terrified of being left behind.
