Cast Needed for Queer Musical "Atalanta: The Long Shot"
Equity and non-equity actor-singers for a fully staged Off-Off-Broadway production of a new queer musical "Atalanta: The Long Shot". ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE CONSIDERED. The requested details are outlined below. About the project: SYNOPSIS: Atalanta: The Long Shot is a boundary-breaking new queer musical that resurrects the long-forgotten mythology of history’s original Amazon and unsung heroine of Ancient Greece. Raised by a bear in the Arcadian forest after being abandoned as an infant because of her sex, Atalanta (“equal in weight”) is the perfect combination of wild femininity and animal instinct. On her eighteenth birthday and prompted by the patronage of her lover, the goddess Artemis, she returns to Grecian society on a quest to discover the life that should have been hers. An exquisite hunter and runner, Atalanta is a staggering anomaly within her own culture and is rudely awakened to the harsh reality of life in a gendered world. But that won’t stop her from making her mark alongside the best heroes of her time. Will she claim the life she lost or will she fail at being human, after all? Rate: $750.00 – $1,000.00 per gig. Additional info: The language of the show is elevated verse, and the music follows atypical structures and heavy chromaticism. Those with experience with Shakespeare are encouraged to apply. Must be able to read music. Range: F2-D4 belt. Atalanta spent her formative years completely isolated from society. When she is introduced to civilization she experiences what it's like to suddenly have her perceived gender affect her opportunity, her autonomy, her ability to relate to others, and her expression. Atalanta is one of the strongest non-male characters in Greek mythology as her desires and abilities exist outside the realm of societal expectation. LGBTQIA+ and TNBGNC individuals are encouraged to apply.
Range: F2-D4 belt. Artemis is the Greek goddess of the hunt, the wilderness, wild animals, and nature. Unlike other gods in the pantheon, she is more content hunting in the forest than meddling in human affairs, and is often seen racing through the woods with packs of nymphs and Amazons. This “virgin” [meaning, unmarried] goddess of the moon embodies the wild feminine and often represents the untamed woman to Grecian society. LGBTQIA+ and TNBGNC individuals are highly encouraged to apply.
Range: D2-C4 belt. The Chorus creates the entire world of the show. All of the characters outside of Artemis and Ataanta will step out of the Chorus, and then be consumed again into the collective. There are many lines of dialogue in verse and ensemble vocals during most songs. Speaking as one voice made of many, or many voices made into one. Requires some movement, but no formal dance experience required. LGBTQIA+ and TNBGNC individuals are highly encouraged to apply.
