About the project: Synopsis: On April 1, 1931 teenager Jackie Mitchell struck out two of the greatest baseball players of all time: Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig- and that was the easy part. Jackie was signed by the "P.T. Barnum of Baseball", Joe Engel, to pitch for the Chattanooga Lookouts, a woman entered the sports world and threatened the way the game was played. In this coming of age story, young Jackie finds herself at war on and off the field with the most powerful figures of major league baseball who want to protect the status quo and discovers that some games are bigger than her. Through a unique blend of bluegrass, folk, and jazz, the score captures the mood of Depression era Tennessee and one young womans' love of the game. Rate: $500 stipend. Local housing available. Additional info: Non union. Presentation will feature script-in-hand performances. Rehearsals: August 13th-21st, 2026 10am-6pm (no rehearsal Sunday 8/16).
