About the project: NEWPORT is an original new musical with a book and lyrics by Richard Byrne and music by Stephen Baranski. Set against the backdrop of Newport, Rhode Island, the story explores love, duty, family, and sacrifice during the 1919 Newport Sex Scandal- a pivotal moment in American history. The production will be presented as a reading before a live audience. Additional info: This is an open call for performers of all ethnicities, identities, and backgrounds. Strong singers and actors are encouraged to audition. This is a reading of a new musical and an opportunity for performers to help bring a developing work to life. Directors welcome submissions from experienced professionals as well as emerging artists interested in collaborating on new musical theatre. Audition requirements Please prepare: - 16–32 bars of a contemporary or traditional musical theatre selection. - Bring sheet music in your key (an accompanist will be provided, if available). - Please bring a current headshot and résumé. - Sides from the script may be provided.
