Cast and Extras Call for "In Defence of Weeds" Project

About the project: The project follows an influx of immigrant workers to a White suburb in the Pacific Northwest, brought by the new Iron Factory. This includes the titular Abdul and Nora, a Middle Eastern couple. As tensions around race and difference continue to rise, the suburb experiences a peculiar garden weed crisis. Eventually, the language used to discuss the immigrant and the garden weed begins to converge and the show explores the two together. Rate: Non-Union. $22/hr. Additional information: Shoot/Performance Date(s) August 2026. Shoot/Performance Location(s) Vancouver. The final project is a high-concept fine art gallery exhibition including still images, a soundscape, and sculpture. The project is expected to travel. Submission Deadline August 3, 2026. Abdul, one of the two protoganists, works at the local Iron Factory. He is a middle eastern immigrant. Hardworking, stoic, but caring. POC men of Arab/M.E. lineage, or those who can pass as such, are encouraged to apply.
Caucasian, or passing. One of the suburb's original residents. Her sons moved away to the city and this has been her home forever. She is seeing it all changed, and is concerned. Obsessed with her garden and rose bushes, her pride and joy.
Looking for more characters that can fit into this world and will be designing these roles based on expressed interest and suitable candidates. Caucasian, Middle Eastern, and passing people are encouraged to apply. Some roles this may lead to include: neighbours, factory owner, factory workers, town elders, town youth, police officer, and the like.
