About the project: Plan 9 from Outer Space: Post Mortem is a comedic adaptation of Ed Wood's infamous cult classic, Plan 9 from Outer Space. In it, Ed Wood returns from beyond the grave to proudly present the film that would become his greatest legacy. Scenes from the original film unfold with all the glorious B-movie chaos audiences could hope for. Between scenes, the ghosts of Ed, Bela Lugosi, and Maila Nurmi (Vampira) step in to deliver their final "post mortem" on the film, sharing behind-the-scenes stories, reflecting on their careers, and occasionally arguing over what really happened before stepping back into their iconic Plan 9 roles. What begins as a campy comedy gradually reveals itself to be a tribute to the artists who refused to stop creating when Hollywood had left them behind. A love letter to cult cinema, it stands as a reminder that authenticity and passion can outlive failure... and, in Ed's case, even death itself. Additional info: You will be given sides to read - given the level of physical comedy, the director is going to give casting preference to those who show up for a physical audition. Criswell is an eccentric television psychic who breaks the fourth wall and inconsistently narrates the film with dramatic flair. This actor will also play every authority figure attempting to manage Earth's alien crisis. Roles include; General Roberts, Colonel Tom Edwards, and The Ruler (of the Alien race).
A stout police detective murdered by the Old Man and the Vampire girl. He's resurrected by the aliens as one of the undead. Additionally, this actor also comically portrays nearly every member of Earth's increasingly overwhelmed police force… and Edith the Flight Attendant. As the crisis escalates this "actor" is increasingly bewildered by who they should be in that particular moment.
The production's ultimate comedic device. Actor #9 portrays Danny, The Minister, Bela Lugosi's Stand-In (The Chiropractor), Patrolman Larry, and the Alien Ship Computer. They also serve as the "films" intentionally low-budget SFX department. They create live "Foley" and appear as terrible stunt doubles. This role embodies the inventive DIY spirit that made Ed Wood's Plan 9 from Outer Space a cult classic.
