Theater Casting Call for "Twelfth Night" Play
ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. Seeking performers for "Twelfth Night" play. Please, see the details below. Additional information: Rehearsals to be held in Brantford, ON with some rehearsals in November-December. Shows will take place on January 1st (one evening show) and January 2nd (one matinee and one evening show) 2027. Please note that "Twelfth Night" is a romantic comedy. All actors should be comfortable with close physical contact with their fellow performers, and the actors cast in the main roles of Duke Orsino, Olivia, Viola, and Sebastian should be comfortable with various levels of dramatic intimacy suitable for a romantic comedy. Comfort levels will be discussed prior to rehearsing intimate scenes; however, please note that as casting will be non-traditional, actors should consider their comfort level towards intimacy with actors of any gender. Please NOTE: there will be a participation fee for all cast members, which helps to cover the cost of the rehearsal space, and can be paid via e-transfer prior to the first rehearsal or in cash at the first rehearsal. Femme presenting. Witty, and resourceful, after finding themself stranded on Illyria, Viola goes out and finds a job. While working for Duke Orsino, they accidentally find themself in a love triangle with the Duke and their employer’s crush. Note that this role involves playing two different genders as they cross dress as Cesario
Masc presenting. Duke Orsino is a romantic at heart, and a bit of a himbo. Desperately in love with Lady Olivia.
Femme presenting. The object of Duke Orsino’s desire, Olivia is in mourning for their brother and tired of Duke Orsino’s advances. Everyone loves Olivia!
Olivia’s jester. Classic “smarter than they look” fool. Sings some songs, makes some mischief.
Olivia’s steward. Stuffy, no fun. Has a crush on Olivia. Easily bamboozled.
Toby is Olivia’s drunk relative. They are mostly here for the alcohol and the shenanigans. Ends up married to Maria.
Medium roles (in terms of lines). Andrew is Toby’s friend, here to court Olivia. Toby is trying to Galindafy them. They're not very bright. Thinks of themself as a great dancer and fencer.
Maria is Olivia’s waiting maid. Probably the most clever person in the household. Mastermind of tthe tricks against Malvolio.
Sebastian is Viola’s twin. Also lost at sea, they find themself helped by Antonio, and then accidentally involved in the love triangle, then a love quadrilateral when they are mistaken for Cesario.
Antonio finds Sebastian, takes care of them and becomes fast friends.
Fabian is another one of the people living in Olivia’s house, part of the pranks against Malvolio, but also a bit of a shit disturber.
