With only 14 days before she may be recommended for inpatient commitment, Esther begins an experimental residential treatment led by Barack Washington, a successful but lonely therapist who temporarily lives inside his patients’ homes. Rate: Compensation ranges from unpaid collaboration—including meals, credit, on-set training, and a copy of the completed film—to a $375 flat fee, depending on the role. Guarded, witty, stubborn, and deeply compassionate, she survives through a carefully maintained routine that keeps her connected to the life she once shared with her mother.
Esther’s aunt and Evelyn’s sister. Lena is practical, protective, and emotionally exhausted after spending years trying to help Esther move forward. She is willing to make painful decisions because she genuinely believes Esther’s life is at risk. Lena is not a villain—she is a woman carrying love, guilt, frustration, and fear at the same time.
Evelyn is Esther’s loving, playful mother. As her mental health deteriorates, their relationship slowly reverses, forcing Esther to become her caregiver. The performer must portray maternal warmth, confusion, vulnerability, and psychological decline with sensitivity and realism.
A former patient in Barack’s Residential Program. Sam lives with an overwhelming compulsive fear that crossing a particular threshold could cause someone he loves to die. His emotionally intense opening scene establishes Barack’s therapeutic approach and the purpose of the program. Requires restrained, realistic acting and comfort portraying severe anxiety.
