Female-presenting. The principal of St. Nicholas School. Stern, disciplined, deeply traditional, and fiercely protective of her students. Sister Aloysius is certain in her convictions and willing to act on instinct, even when proof is unclear.
Male-presenting. A charismatic and progressive parish priest. Warm, approachable, and well-liked by the students and community. Father Flynn believes the Church should be more welcoming and modern, but questions surrounding his behavior place him at the center of the play’s conflict.
Female-presenting. A young, idealistic teacher at St. Nicholas School. Kind-hearted, earnest, and eager to do good, Sister James struggles with uncertainty as she is pulled between trust, obedience, suspicion, and doubt.
Female-presenting. The mother of Donald Muller, the school’s first Black student. Practical, composed, and deeply aware of the difficult choices required to protect her son’s future. Mrs. Muller appears in one powerful scene and must bring emotional depth, strength, and nuance.
