ID: 314645Exp: 7/25/2026
Description:

Performers wanted for "The Birds" play. Please find the details below. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE CONSIDERED. About the project: From the story that inspired the classic Hitchcock film, this bold adaptation is a gripping, unsettling, and moving look at human relationships in the face of societal collapse. In an isolated house, strangers Diane and Nat take shelter from relentless masses of attacking birds. They find relative sanctuary but not comfort or peace: there is no electricity, little food, and a nearby neighbor may still be alive and watching them. Another refugee, the younger Julia, arrives with some news of the outside world, but her presence also brings discord. Their survival becomes even more doubtful when paranoia takes hold of the makeshift fortress — an internal threat to match that of the birds outside. Additional info: Contains explicit language, situational horror, and references to the threat of sexual assault; no sexual assault is depicted onstage. Prepare one pre-selected monologue from the provided list, or a one-minute monologue of your own choosing. Monologues need not be memorized. 4 roles

DIANEBoth genders40-59 y.o.All ethnicities

(Lead) | Female Identifying The narrator of the piece. Begins as the most personable and composed inhabitant of the house, but turns into the most ruthless. An author, complex, smart, generally a rule-follower, would choose science over religion, lonely, slightly judgmental, insomnic, has a grown daughter, full of pain and fear and doubt - but covers it well.

NATBoth genders40-59 y.o.All ethnicities

(Lead) | Male Identifying Even in the desperate attempt to survive and the suffocating atmosphere of the house, Nat retains a certain charisma and sex appeal. A coward at times and an adventurer at other times, has an “ignorance is bliss” philosophy, lives on the verge of personal collapse.

JULIABoth genders20-29 y.o.All ethnicities

(Lead) | Female Identifying Free-spirited, rule-breaker, smoker, energetic, outgoing, a force to be reckoned with, either wise beyone her years or an amazing swindler. In order to survive, she will do anything: lie, kill, or deceive. Unknowingly or not, she drives a wedge between Nat and Diane.

TIERNEYBoth genders40-69 y.o.All ethnicities

(Supporting) | Male Identifying An ominous “Other type”: can be interpreted differently regardless of age or appearance. A lonely neighboring farmer with an imposing and threatening presence. One great scene of dialogue. (It is probable that this actor will be onstage for the majority of the play, his face obscured by shadows on the other side of the house, his company is seen by the audience but not always by the other characters onstage.)
