Strategically charismatic. She’s been tasked with coupling the children of a wealthy family for a large sum of money (which she desperately needs). Discovering she’s extremely adept at wielding the social power of being ignored. Accidentally falls in love. Working class.

Not from money. Married into a wealthy family and still feels like he’s playing the part of affluence. Hard to know. Stoic. Lonely. Often joking but you can’t tell. Startled to realize he doesn’t like his children. His wife died nine months ago. Loved her so much. Has no love left.

(25) — Leigh’s son. Only child. Has spent his life thus far with very little regard to his future. Increasingly concerned with his (and his family’s) financial situation. Just realized he won’t always be young and wants to advance his position in some way. Not anxious about his sexuality. Working class.

(28) — The oldest McKinney child. Charming, masking deep insecurity. Leans into the idea that he’s devil-may-care to skirt responsibility. Sexual. Seductive. Annoying. The guy who would ask the teacher how her weekend was. Doesn’t know how to turn his charisma into a life. Into older women. His mom died nine months ago. Rich.

(26) — The middle McKinney child. Has never lived away from home. He is, by default, being queued up to take over the family’s foundation. Closeted, habitually hooking up with people he hopes to never see again. In a quarter life crisis, looking for an exit strategy. Wants to be powerful, but deeply uncomfortable with himself. His mom died nine months ago. Rich.

(21) — The youngest McKinney child and only daughter. At a crossroads of familial expectations and aimless ambition leading her to defer to the loudest voice in the room. Trying to be her own person, occasionally succeeding. Does not see past herself. Her mom died nine months ago. Rich.

(22) — Katherine’s best friend from home. Devoted to Katherine. Wants to embody “southern womanhood”. Processes through planning, hosting. Thinks of herself as a counterpoint to Mara. Believes she has control. Energetic, enthusiastic, easy to like. A bit high strung. Not quite at rich as the McKinney’s.

(21) — Katherine’s best friend from college. Not from this town. Observant, judgmental, tuned in. Thinks of herself as an academic. Both disgusted and fascinated by the wealth around her. Low strung. Middle class.
