About the project: When an unexpected pregnancy binds together the children of a Vietnamese and an Italian family, their reluctant marriage creates tension as cultures, traditions, and family loyalties begin to clash. Rate: Unpaid/Honorarium (Food & Transportation Provided). Additional information: Genre: Romantic-Comedy/Drama (Dramedy). Location: Montreal, QC. Auditions will be conducted through self tapes or will be done on zoom. Instructions on auditioning, sample scripts will be provided. Supporting roles do not require a scripted audition scene. Vietnamese-Canadian. Amy is pregnant, hormonal, and fiercely independent. Used to trusting her own judgment, she struggles when her family and future in-laws begin making decisions on her behalf. Intelligent and strong-willed, she often masks vulnerability with anger. Her friendship and affection are hard-earned, making her connection with Micheal feel especially meaningful.
Italian-Canadian. Micheal is optimistic, dependable, and action-oriented. His love language is acts of service, and he often uses humor to avoid difficult conversations. While not always the best with words, he consistently shows up for the people he loves. His practical nature complements Amy's fiery personality.
Vietnamese. Amy's mother. Hien is brutally honest, often crossing the line between truthfulness and cruelty. Though her criticisms stem from love and concern, she struggles to communicate her emotions effectively. She intentionally speaks Vietnamese even though her English is excellent, reinforcing the distance that has developed between her and Amy.
Italian. Micheal's mother. Self-made, successful, and fiercely protective of her family. Carmella believes there is a proper way to do things and isn't afraid to share her opinions. She takes immense pride in her sons and sees herself as the family's matriarch.
Italian. Micheal's father. Traditional, authoritative, and proud. Johnny carries himself with confidence and expects respect from those around him. Beneath his tough exterior lies a deep commitment to family values.
Italian-Canadian. Micheal's younger brother. Loud, playful, and occasionally inappropriate. Luca loves action movies, gangster films, and getting a reaction out of people. His crude jokes often create tension, though his intentions are rarely malicious.
Italian. Micheal's grandfather. Easygoing and content with life's simple pleasures. Having reached an age where he no longer feels the need to impress anyone, Antonio serves as a grounding presence amid the chaos of family conflict.
SUPPORTING ROLES. Members of Amy's extended Vietnamese family. Opinionated, judgmental, and always watching. They spend most of their time eating, drinking, gossiping, and quietly fueling family tensions.
