About the play: This classic comedy takes place in the 60s and opens on a friendly card game in the untidy apartment of divorced Oscar Madison. And if the mess is any indication, it’s no wonder that his wife left him. Late arriving is Felix Ungar, who has just been separated from his wife. Fastidious, depressed, and none too tense, Felix seems suicidal, but as the action unfolds, Oscar becomes the one with murder on his mind when the clean freak and the slob ultimately decide to room together. The action unfolds with hilarious results as The Odd Couple is born. Additional information: Callbacks (if needed): June 18th, 7:30 PM. Location: Ajax. Felix is a meticulous, neurotic, and sensitive man who is obsessively tidy. He is a classic hypochondriac, constantly worrying about his health and cleanliness, and is known for his emotional and moody nature. Felix’s compulsive need for order and his tendency to overanalyze situations often create tension in his relationships.
Oscar is easygoing, slovenly, and fun-loving, with a lifestyle that is the opposite of Felix’s. A sportswriter, Oscar is disorganized, careless about cleanliness, and enjoys gambling and socializing. He is unconcerned with order, and his relaxed attitude and messy habits are a constant source of comedic conflict with Felix’s fastidiousness.
Murray is a New York City police officer and one of Oscar and Felix’s regular poker buddies. He is good-natured and practical, often serving as a calming presence among the group. While Murray is generally easygoing, he can sometimes be a bit slow to catch on to jokes or the subtleties of the group’s banter, adding to the humor of their interactions.
Speed is another member of the poker group and is known for his gruff, impatient, and sarcastic demeanor. Despite his tough exterior and quick temper, Speed is ultimately a loyal friend to both Oscar and Felix. His sharp wit and no-nonsense attitude often provide comic relief during the group’s poker games.
Vinnie is a mild-mannered and somewhat anxious member of the poker circle. He is often portrayed as henpecked and easily flustered, especially when discussions become heated or chaotic. Vinnie’s gentle nature and tendency to worry make him a sympathetic and relatable character within the group.
Roy is Oscar’s accountant and another of the regular poker buddies. He is dry-witted, practical, and often serves as the voice of reason among the friends. Roy’s pragmatic approach to life and his ability to keep a level head help balance out the more eccentric personalities in the group.
Gwendolyn, British and Cecily’s sister is cheerful and flirtatious. She has a lighthearted and playful personality, adding a charming dynamic to the story, especially in her interactions with the two mismatched roommates.
