Actors for workshop production of "Hyde (or Girls Can Kill Goats)". ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE CONSIDERED. See the details below. About the project: Hyde (Or Girls Can Kill Goats) is a bold contemporary reimagining of Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson. A delightfully dangerous mix of Yellowjackets and John Proctor is a Villain, HYDE is a fierce feminist twist on the classic tale of good vs. evil, featuring heightened language, poetic theatricality, and a vengeful goat goddess named Bernice Hyde. Rate: All actors will receive a $1500.00 stipend, to be paid on the first performance. Additional info: Please note that this is a workshop production to test the material. Actors will perform on-book with full staging and technical elements. The plan is to produce a full production in 2027 or 2028. Producers plan to file for AEA Showcase Code, so union and non-union actors are welcome to apply. AUDITION INFORMATION: Auditions will be held by appointment only on Wednesday May 27th from 5-10PM in midtown Manhattan. Callbacks will be on Friday June 5th from 5-10PM. For auditions, actors will be asked to prepare monologues from the script. For callbacks, actors will read sides from the play as well as participate in a brief Mask call. All actors will assist in creating the character of Bernice Hyde, the vengeful goat goddess who lurks in the depths of Jane’s imagination. Actors who are comfortable with Mask and/or puppetry are highly encouraged to apply. NOTE: The story is set in two time periods—the characters' college days from 2002-2006, and the events leading up to their twenty-year class reunion in 2026. Seeking actors in their 30s-40s who feel they can embody these characters as college-aged girls as well as middle-aged women. PRODUCTION DATES: directors hope to have a few Mask training workshops and Zoom tablework sessions in mid/late August to prepare for September staging rehearsals, TBD depending on actor availability. First Staging Rehearsal: September 9th Tech Rehearsals: September 19-20 Dress Rehearsals: September 22-23 Performances: 3 performances from September 24-26. Actors will be given the opportunity to read the full script as well.

3 roles

JANEFemale30-49 y.o.All ethnicities

She grew up on an isolated farm with only barnyard animals and books as her friends. In college, she's a creative writing major. In her adult life, she is a struggling short story writer who reluctantly teaches at her alma mater to pay the bills. Wildly imaginative, bright, and quietly obsessive. Jane guides the audience through the story, so directors are specifically seeking actors who are excited to tackle long-form direct address monologues.

HESTERFemale30-49 y.o.All ethnicities

She began her obsession with science as a child, when she'd brew "potions" to help her ailing mother through chemotherapy. In college, she's a chemistry major. In her adult life, she's a senior research scientist at a pharmaceutical company. Ambitious, charismatic, and assertive in the best way.

LANIEFemale30-49 y.o.All ethnicities
