4 roles
(The Mother): A faded Southern belle living in the past. She is a fiercely protective but suffocating mother who refuses to face her family's grim reality. She treats Tom’s freedom as a bargaining chip, demanding he find Laura a husband before he is "allowed" to leave.
(The Daughter): Painfully shy and physically disabled, she lives in a world of fragile glass ornaments. She is too delicate for the real world, becoming a symbol of innocence and a source of intense guilt for her brother, Tom.
(The Narrator/Son): An aspiring poet trapped in a dead-end warehouse job. He provides for the family but feels imprisoned by their dependence. He eventually escapes, but remains haunted by the sister he abandoned.
(The Gentleman Caller): A symbol of the "real world" and the "American Dream." Though he is kind to Laura, he unintentionally crushes her hopes by revealing he is already engaged, proving that the family's dreams are unattainable.
