Synopsis: After her father’s funeral, Ophelia is visited by a man claiming to be her “replacement father,” assigned to help her process the loss. Ophelia resists, yet the man persists, relying on a binder of notes and attempting to perform duties her real father never fulfilled. Once the “replacement” begins to embody not who her father was, but who he could have been. Ophelia is forced to confront the anger she’s held onto, and the desire for connection she never fully let go of. In the end, she turns not to the replacement but to her father’s letters, choosing to face her grief on her own terms.

Ophelia is independent and aloof, having learned from an early age not to rely on anyone but herself. She seems composed and unaffected, but beneath that control is unresolved anger, abandonment issues, and a quiet longing she refuses to acknowledge. Ophelia struggles between her belief that she does not need her father and the reality that his absence still affects her. She ignores her grief as engaging with it would mean admitting she cared, and still does.
The Replacement Father is a strange, awkward, but earnest figure assigned to fill the role of Ophelia’s deceased father. He relies on his notes and observations, yet shows genuine effort to connect emotionally. He is a reflection of what Ophelia’s father was not, what he could have been, and what she might have needed. He might be failing at his role, but he won't give up. Unsure if effort alone is enough, he questions his own purpose.
