We are still casting for both Healing Roots and Afiya PSAs, programs which are run by the SCHC. These PSAs will be filmed primarily in Scarborough over the course of 2-4 days between May 29th and June 1st. If you are under 18 yrs old, you must have a Parent/Guardian’s consent in order to apply. This is an excellent opportunity to gain acting experience and contribute to a meaningful project. Candidates with prior acting experience are encouraged to apply, but enthusiasm and a willingness to learn are equally valued. This is a Non-Union project and an honorarium and lunch will be provided.

Earl is one of Malcolm’s closest friends and they have known each other since elementary school. They have an easy rapport and often hang out, but he suspects Malcolm is hiding something.

A community anchor who understands that "support" doesn't mean being a typical clinical therapist. She is intuitive and perceptive, with an all-heart, approachable demeanor. Safe, grounded, and human, she doesn't preach; she listens. Needs to feel like the kind of person who will make you feel comfortable to actually tell your secrets to, not someone reciting a textbook.

A warm, professional healthcare provider. Needs to have a kind, welcoming presence. This might be a one-line or non-speaking role, but should convey instant comfort and trust with patients.

Enthusiastic, energetic, and the emotional engine of the family. She is the one coordinating the family photo, creating the warmth that the whole family gravitates toward. Must be comfortable leading a group and projecting natural joy

Grandpa/Male ElderMale60-70 y.o.African-American

Confident, dignified and almost regal. He represents the "future" the family is trying to protect. Needs to carry a sense of presence as he’s the visual anchor for the photo and will interact with many people

Health Care Worker SpokesmanMale40-55 y.o.African-American

Authoritative yet engaging as he will speak about the need for Diabetes and Hypertension screening in the community. Someone who can present facts to camera but in a friendly and casual way.
