A young and attractive woman in her forties who might appear extremely emotional. Once a professional actress, she retains and uses, not too often and not too exaggeratedly, some of the traditional gestures. Her softness and feminine charm must be emphasized without losing the comic effects of her sometimes frenzy. She is never shrill; she is never a shrew.

His favorite pose is one of a shy, gentle, withdrawn man, but he cannot maintain this when drinking or when discussing his writing.

Although she is in her early twenties, she has been around. She has a bright and gentle air, innocent and inquisitive; she is very much alive and almost childishly eager.

Elegant. Over fifty, he conceives himself as under forty, and as a matter of fact, appears so. He fancies himself a cynic, and having survived three calamitous marriages, perhaps it's such an idle fancy. He also fancies himself the Noel Coward of mystery writers.

May be under seventy but in her part of the midwest that is considered "elderly" and she goes along with whatever they think "Back home." She has vaguely heard that there are two points of view on any subject but she never did believe it. Sweetness is her pose, but look out! She has a distinctly midwestern accent.
