Rate: LORT Non-Rep/URTA $1114 weekly minimum (LORT C) - Syracuse Stage $1152 weekly minimum (Tier IV - URTA) - Syracuse University Additional info: Audition day lunch 12:30 PM - 1:30 PM. PREPARATION: Please prepare one 1-to-2 minute contemporary monologue OR if singing, a one 1-minute contemporary monologue and a maximum 32-bars of a song (bring sheet music). Please bring a headshot with resume attached by staples. An accompanist will be provided. EPA Procedures are in effect for this audition. An Equity Monitor will be provided. Male-identifying, Vocal Range: Baritone/Tenor (B3–A#5). Brilliant, obsessive, volatile detective. Vacillates between razor-sharp deduction and psychological unraveling. Physically expressive, emotionally demanding role requiring speed, stamina, and intensity.
Male-identifying, Vocal Range: Tenor/High Baritone (G2–A#5). Warm, grounded narrator. Soldier-doctor with deep loyalty to Holmes. Must balance vulnerability, moral strength, and occasional dry humor. Carries the emotional continuity of the show.
Female-identifying, Vocal Range: Mezzo/Soprano Mix (E3–G5). Sharp-witted, resilient, emotionally layered with a complicated past. A Whitechapel sex worker who becomes Holmes’ essential ally and emotional conscience. Requires charisma, grit, comedy, and heartbreaking vulnerability.
Male-identifying, Vocal range: Baritone (A2–G4). Gruff, world-weary Scotland Yard inspector. Often overwhelmed by Holmes’ brilliance but relies on him. Occasional comedic dryness. Needs strong presence and ability to pivot between authority and frustration.
Female-identifying, Vocal Range: Mezzo (G3–E5). Maternal, witty, resilient. Provides both heart and comedic relief. Her song showcases humor, warmth, and grounded presence.
Male-identifying, Vocal Range: True Tenor (B3–B5). Charming, boyish, and secretly monstrous. Requires duality: innocent on the surface, terrifying underneath. Climactic villain role with extreme vocal and emotional demands.
Male-identifying, Vocal Range: Baritone/Tenor (B3–A5). Nervous, overeager journalist desperate for relevance. A biased political commentator with a strong disdain for Holmes. Comic at times, tragic at others. Needs strong text delivery.
Male-identifying, Vocal Range: Baritone/Tenor (B3–A5). A charming undercover reporter and a calculated, drunken conversationalist with a heart. Provides key intel and shifts from humor to dread. Requires vocal flexibility and strong acting instincts.

Various Londoners, requires strong singing with versatility, and character acting range. Will double as Hawkins, a scrappy, street-smart member of the Baker Street Irregulars who provides crucial intel to aid Holmes’ investigation. Balances toughness with a playful side, who is between 13 – 15 years old.

Female-identifying, age 47, Vocal Range: Soprano/Mix (E3–C#6) Maternal, weary, hauntingly present. Requires emotional nuance.
Female-identifying, age 44, Vocal Range: E3–F#5, Strong presence with grounded humanity. Tonally darker than the first two.
Female-identifying, age 46, Vocal Range: E3–F#5. Streetwise, sharp, resilient. Conveys fight and fear.
Female-identifying, age 25, Vocal Range: E3–F#5 The final and most emotionally charged victim. Her appearance is pivotal and disturbing. A powerful storyteller with rich expressiveness.
These roles are NOT ensemble; they are distinct characters with featured lines, solos, and haunting stage presence. They also function as a Greek Chorus haunting Holmes throughout the investigation and embodying the psychological shadows he cannot escape. Requires very tight harmonies and stylized physical movement. All may double in ensemble roles when not appearing as “The Departed.”
