About the film: “Puppet Show” follows Violet – a young photographer wound up in a complicated relationship with her aunt and artistic mentor Mabel. It seems Violet will do anything to please Mabel, but she has become fed up with her own performances of taste, maturity and harmony. In her attempt to assert her individuality, Violet gets sucked into a search for an image of herself that is separate from Mabel. Rate: Non union. An honorarium is available for the role of Mabel. LEAD ROLE (Anglophone). 55 Lines - 16 Scenes. Violet is a sensitive and introverted photographer who has recently moved to Montreal – a place that until the past few years has been the city of her aunt Mabel. She is hyper-aware of others’ perception of her, especially Mabel’s . An artist with an active imagination, Violet has a rich playfulness – a side of herself she doesn’t really show to Mabel.
LEAD ROLE (Anglophone with min. basic French). 48 Lines - 11 Scenes. Violet’s aunt and artistic mentor, Mabel is eccentric and charming, but has hyper-critical and manipulative tendencies. She mostly denies the power dynamic between the two and acts more like Violet’s best friend. Compensating for the regrets of her own art career, Mabel is always chasing the next idea and uses her relationship with Violet as a mascot for her pursuits.
SUPPORTING ROLE Bilingual (French/English). Singing ability is a bonus, not required. 11 Lines - 4 Scenes. Violet’s new neighbor. Grounded and easy-going, Morgan is able to live in the moment and helps Violet do the same.
