Theater Audition for "Jesus, Mary, and Jo" Play

About the play: When her daughter Jo reveals her teenage pregnancy, pastor’s wife Mary enacts a plan to convince her entire town that the child is the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. Once one of their staged “Miracles” turns deadly and a dark secret from Mary’s past threatens to reveal itself, Mary and Jo must both make difficult decisions and grapple with what it means to have so much influence over the life of one’s own child. Rate: This production will operate on a profit-share model. With cast and crew receiving a share of profits following the run of the show at the Fringe festival. Additional information: Auditions will take place online. Will be provided a reading partner, taking the form of a reading of a side which you will have access to prior to the audition. Not expected that these are off-book but applicants are encouraged to have a side selected prior to their audition time. Self-tapes will be accepted if actors are unable to make an audition time. (Female-presenting) Incumbent mayor running for re-election with plans to one day run for Governor. Mother of Jo’s boyfriend Eldon, Christie’s campaign becomes overshadowed by her connection to Mary’s staged miracles. Distrustful of Mary and her husband’s Church, Christie threatens to expose Mary’s plot before unwittingly becoming part of it.
(Male-presenting) The teenage immigrant son of a groundskeeper, the real father of Jo’s baby. Earnest and humble, he has a brief love affair with Jo while she is at summer camp. Once he finds out about Jo’s pregnancy, he becomes intent on being part of the baby’s life, much to Mary’s distress. The actor playing John will also embody various ensemble roles throughout the play.
(Male-presenting) A split role: Clarence is the pastor of a Megachurch in Tennessee who believes wholeheartedly that his daughter is pregnant with the second coming of Christ. He’s always chewing gum and smiling. He does not belong to any real life religious denomination: a Megachurch pastor, his only doctrine is attention, influence, and outrage.
