Casting Performers for "Asuncion" Play
Auditions for play "Asuncion". Seeking actors. Please see the details below. About the project: Edgar, aimless and socially inept, lives with Vinny, his former T.A. in Binghamton, NY. Both are committed to being actively anti-racist. In fact, Edgar maintains a blog condemning American imperialism, and Vinny is three-quarters into a Ph.D. in Black Studies. When Edgar’s older brother Stuart announces his marriage to a young Filipina woman named Asuncion, and begs them to take her in as their new roommate while he cleans up a problem from her past, the boys have a perfect opportunity to demonstrate how open-minded they truly are. They each spectacularly fail, revealing their subconscious biases and real connection to each other. Additional info: Audition information: The audition form is attached. 27, Jewish. A socially awkward, neurotic, messy, and unmotivated aspiring journalist. He’s a patronizing, hyper-verbal, and self-involved intellectual who clings to left-wing ideals, often behaving like a needy, anxious puppy seeking approval from his roommate–for whom he has unresolved feelings.
30. Edgar’s roommate and former TA. A charismatic, self-assured, flirty, and occasionally cruel PhD student in Black Studies at Binghamton University. Has a dominant streak that he enjoys playing out with Edgar–for whom he has complicated feelings.
27, Filipina. Stuart’s wife from the Philippines. An open-hearted “blithe spirit” filled with curiosity and youthful enthusiasm.
35, Jewish. Edgar’s older brother and Asuncion’s husband. An overbearing Wall Street executive who prides himself on being an active problem-solver and has little tolerance for his younger brother’s inertia.
