About the project: SYNOPSIS: Orphaned in India, 11-year-old MARY LENNOX returns to Yorkshire to live with her embittered, reclusive uncle Archibald and his disabled son COLIN. The estate's many wonders include a magic garden which beckons the children with haunting melodies and the "Dreamers," spirits from Mary's past who guide her through her new life, dramatizing The Secret Garden's compelling tale of forgiveness and renewal. Rate: LORT Non-Rep $1213 weekly minimum (LORT B) $889 weekly minimum (LORT D) Additional info: No advanced appointments. Equity Members will be seen on first come, first serve basis. Sign-up sheet will be started at 9:30am. Audition Lunch 1:30 PM - 2:30 PM. PREPARATION: Please prepare a short monologue and/or short song. Auditions may not exceed 3-minutes total. An accompanist will be provided. Please bring sheet music. Also, please bring a copy of your headshot and resume stapled all four corners back-to-back. Always bring your equity card to EPAs. Baritone with Falsetto. Mary’s uncle and proprietor of Misselthwaite Manor. Lost his beloved wife Lily after the birth of their son Colin. Plagued with grief but has a tender side.
Baritone with dark resonance. A self-important Physician with an imposing, tough disposition. Colin Craven’s obsessive caretaker. Loved his brother’s wife when she was alive and has not moved on.
Mezzo with Belt. A young chambermaid who befriends and encourages Mary. Warm and straight-talking. Speaks with a Yorkshire accent.
Tenor. Martha’s brother—an agile, otherworldly young man with a charming sense of mischief. He shares a deep spiritual connection with the natural world surrounding Misselthwaite Manor, tending its plants and animals. He also guides Mary, sharing his knowledge of the Manor’s garden and helping her discover its magic.
Baritenor. The head gardener, secretly entrusted to take care of the garden after Lily’s death. Knows a great deal about the history of the garden and the grounds it sits on. Speaks with a Yorkshire accent.
Soprano. Archibald’s wife who died tragically ten years before in her garden. Her spirit haunts Misselthwaite Manor. British accent required.
Archibald’s housekeeper. A cold and severe woman. Speaks with a Yorkshire accent.
(Mid-30s) Tenor. Mary’s father, stationed in India serving under the British Raj. A caring man. Dies in the cholera epidemic at the beginning of the story and looks after Mary from the beyond. British accent required.
Soprano. Mary’s mother and Lily’s sister. Aristocratic and superficial, she never understood how her sister could love Archibald. Not an affectionate person, but loyal to her husband and daughter. Dies during the cholera epidemic at the beginning of the story and looks after Mary from the beyond. British accent required.
Mezzo-Soprano. South Asian. Mary’s caretaker and maternal figure in India. Dies during the cholera epidemic at the beginning of the story and looks after Mary from the Beyond.
Tenor. South Asian. Dies during the cholera epidemic at the beginning of the story and looks after Mary from the Beyond.
