About the project: LOGLINE: Reflections of an Iranian-Canadian pianist, Shirin (late-20s) as she reminisces about the first four seasons after she and her parents immigrated from Tehran to Toronto in 2010. Binding pre-Revolutionary Persian music with wholesome vignettes, Scent of Saffron follows Shirin as she navigates childhood in Toronto, observing her parents’ struggles in finding work and maintaining their relationship after migrating, and her budding interaction with an elderly Armenian antique shopkeeper who befriends her. Rate: Vary between $500-$3000 (flat rate) depending on role. Additional information: An Iranian diaspora coming-of-age drama. Genre: drama/coming of age. Location: Toronto/GTA, ON. Shooting dates: July-Dec 2026 (~20 days total, mainly in August). When applying, please submit head shots & demo reel by March 1, 2026.

Leading Role. Persian Male, fluent in Farsi. Ali is Shirin's father, hardworking, melancholic, and beaten down by the immigrant lifestyle. He is her main guide, and works at a pizza shop despite being a doctor in Iran. He loves Canada despite the struggles and works hard to "become a Canadian".

Supporting Role. Persian Female, fluent in Farsi Nasreen's passion and love for her daughter Shirin is undeniable. She never really wanted to immigrate to Canada, and sometimes lashes out at her husband, but ultimately remains by his side and trusts in him. A beautiful scene involves her slow dancing with a silhouetted lighting effect.

MR. DERDERIANMale55-80 y.o.White / Caucasian

Supporting Role. Armenian Male-presenting (only speaks English, could be any tan-skinned actor). Mr. Derderian becomes Shirin's best friend throughout the story. They play backgammon together at his antique store, as he tells her about the history of ancient Iran. His story is one that unravels throughout the story and builds Shirin's character alongside his own.
