About the project: A short romance film about vulnerability, slowing down, and getting out of our own heads. Two lonely city dwellers trying to process big life changes peruse a secondhand bookstore to distract themselves from their real lives for a moment. Female-identifying. A lonely emerging adult who has just quit her job in the city in order to move across the country back home with her mother, newly widowed and grieving. She feels powerless now that she has lost her job, but believes that helping others means self-sacrifice. She has trouble with vulnerability and helps everyone but herself; she bottles things up. She's been a regular at this bookstore for years, but has never met its other regular.
MALE-IDENTIFYING. A lonely businessman who chose his career as a safe option to make money. A week ago, his girlfriend, Vivian, broke up with him because he never wanted to try new things. Henry is bitter toward the world and can't see past his own problems. He's trying to rush through life, tries to ignore his own feelings, and at heart, he's insecure that he doesn't have any great purpose in life. He's been a regular at this bookstore for years, but has never met its other regular.
A millennial hipster who opened this bookstore around six years ago with an ex-partner after quitting their office job. Total extrovert. They're a big fan of people-watching and like that every book donated comes with a story of its previous owners, and every person who comes into the store also brings a story. They love engaging with the world around them, and are a big fan of coffee, old music records, archives, and World War II history.
